Some old friends stopped by without calling first not long ago. We had a good talk with them, reminiscing old times, catching up on current events, and discussing politics. As the night progressed, I realized I needed to serve refreshments. This would be a difficult task, as I haven’t been to the store lately and my supply of food was dwindling. I surveyed the cupboard, trying to find a suitable choicebut couldn’t find anything appropriate. I refused to serve these people stale crackers, moldy cheese, or overripe fruit. I quickly scanned the contents of my refrigerator and freezer. How lucky could I be? Wedged between the fish sticks and popsicles in my freezer was a wonderful option…cheesecake.
Cheesecake can be stored for several days in the refrigerator or frozen for months. It tastes as fresh as the day you purchase it. It thaws in just a few minutes, is easy to slice into serving portions and simple to serve. Its creamy texture makes it easy to swallow, as well.
Cheesecake is a truly delightful treat, I like to keep a few around for just these sorts of occasions. It is so versatile, it freezes well, is easy to serve, and can be used for just about any occasion. Whether it is a sweet snack, a handy dessert, or a covered-dish item for pot-luck dinners, cheesecake is an unforgettable and appropriate choice. I’ve even been known to give cheesecake to others as gifts.
Cheesecake boasts a flavorful originality all its own, with the perfect combination of tartness and sweetness. There are a number of varieties of cheesecake from which to choose, making each a exquisitively different dessert. Of these different varieties, fruit-topped cheesecake offers a healthy and colorful option. Consider juicy, red strawberries, firm blueberries, or sweet peaches ladled generously over a slice of New York cheesecake and feel your mouth delight in the complimentary flavors. For that extra-tart, exotic pleaser, try Key Lime cheesecake. Turtle cheesecake has that decadently rich taste that is truly scrumptious.
The cheesecake in my freezer just happened to be New York Style. This turned out to be the perfect choice for these particular friends, who are non-pretentious and very down-to-earth. I quickly placed the container on the counter to start thawing, started a pot of coffee and by the time it was finished brewing, the cheesecake was ready to slice and serve. What a delightful visit we had, conversing between mouthfuls of this deliciously refreshing treat.
Cheesecake is a handy and impressive treat to keep on hand for those surprise visitors who you know are going to be arriving sometime. A well stocked freezer with those emergency supplies turns what could have been a stressful time into a celebration. Sometimes I think my friends come whenever they get hungry for this sweet treat!
Love chocolate? Love cheesecake? Consider chocolate cheesecake is the closest one can get to the platonic ideal of scrumptious? You’re not alone! I think there are many like you and me out there: “chocolate cheesecake lovers of the world, unite!” In honor of chocolate cheesecake and all of its lovers, I have put together the following list of the important uses of chocolate cheesecake in everyday life.
1) Fun Days and Difficult Days
Chocolate cheesecake is undeniably the perfect conclusion for both good days and bad days. What better way to end a holiday get-together than with chocolate cheesecake? Whether celebrating with family or friends, whether the evening has gone without a hitch or full of holes, whether the main course was mouth-watering or stale, providing cheesecake at the end of the holiday meal assures you that all your guests will go home talking about what a fantastic and talented host you are!
2) Three Meals a Day
Anyone who was disciplined enough to let that last slice of chocolate cheesecake stay until morning knows just how splendid cheesecake is for breakfast. Cold cheesecake with milk is a perfect way to start off your day. Chocolate cheesecake is also an invaluable addition to any lunch menu. And little, I believe, needs to be said about the compliments cheesecake makes to even the least appetizing dinners! If you still haven’t had enough, try having some chocolate cheesecake for dessert, or even your midnight snack.
3) Monday, Friday, Whenever
Is it just me, or is that temptation for some chocolate cheesecake always around during the start of the week? And who can resist dipping in for some chocolate cheesecake at the end of a long, hard work week? Despite Monday and Friday’s tasty treats to look forward to, I often keep myself going through the week with a little slice here and there of, you guessed it, chocolate cheesecake.
Do you get the sense that I should join a twelve step program for cheesecake overindulgers? Don’t worry for me too much. I can enjoy sugar free cheesecake without any guilt. Furthermore, I don’t really eat chocolate cheesecake every single day. Some days I merely dream about it.

The MPHB creates colonies and seldom builds roads and even if it builds them they are so shoddy that they get broken down very fast -Proloy Bagchi Only a few days back I wrote how “too many cooks” were “cooking the goose” of the Upper Lake. And, now, lo and behold, the same is happening with the roads of our beautiful city.
Help for prescriptions is available if you qualify. If you are uninsured or your policies does not cover your prescription medication, getting the prescription medication you need may be pricey. Help with prescriptions can make your recovery go a lot faster. For these patients with liver cancer, this is particularly true.
Let’s say you have been getting chemo, although it creates an upset belly, as a result you need to have a anti-nausea prescription medication to go along with it. Afterward, the chemo has caused you to become anemic, so you need to have a prescription for an iron supplement. The list may go on and on. What it amounts to is that a cancer patient may perhaps very easy be spending more for drugs than their house payment! At this point you need to turn to a prescription program assistance.
What are you to do when you need help paying for your medicine?
Don’t stop taking your medicine! There are quite a few programs provided that provide free and reduced cost prescription drugs assistance.
• Social Worker- Most hospitals have got a social worker who may help you acquire grants and other programs aimed at assisting you with your health care needs. This could be your opening stop in looking for aid. Always tell your physician if you cannot pay for prescription drugs or treatment. He or she may well know of a package personally to help you, also.
• PPA- The Partnership for Prescription Assistance is a outfit designed at serving people who can not pay for their prescription medicine. They have created a database of over 325 plans and in excess of 5000 prescriptions available for reduced or no cost assistance. They lend a hand in determining what you are suitable for and applying for the assistance. The help is free and available online.
• Pharmaceutical Companies- A lot of patients wouldn’t think prescription drug companies offer aid, but several do. Boehringer offers a prescription medication package for individuals taking their medicine and cannot meet the expense of them. Locate the producer of your medicine by asking your general practitioner or pharmacist and try out the website for medicines assistance programs.
Scientists and nutritionists have found that this wonderful brew does indeed have medicinal properties that can help in preventing several types of illnesses, which even includes cancer. In fact, there are even doctors who recommend green tea and even endorses that this particular tea plays a great role in maintaining good health. Health professionals all over the world recommend that people should drink 3 to 4 cups of green tea a day in order to help in protecting the body against various ailments. So, just what are the benefits of this so called miracle brew that it even baffled health professionals from all over the world?
First of all, you need to understand that the body does millions of processes occurring at all times. Even when you are asleep, the brain is active and will require oxygen in order to function properly. However, the oxygen that we breathe in can create harmful side effects, or what most people know as oxidants. These oxidants or commonly known as free radicals are introduced to our system through external sources, such as pollution, stress, smoking, diet, and even exposure to the sun. And, these free radicals are known to be one of the main contributors in the growth of cancer cells.
As people grow older many start to take different types of prescription drugs for a variety of conditions. There is some evidence that one of the
health benefits of green tea include the possibility of reducing the amount of these prescription drugs. These drugs can very expensive, and some of these drugs come with side effects. Each person should consult with their doctors about each of these conditions, but they might try drinking green tea on a regular basis to ward off some of these conditions before they appear. They might try drinking some green tea to see if they might reverse some of the conditions that already exist
Because liver is another agent responsible for metabolism, it is greatly affected by green tea. There is strong correlation of bonds between liver function and antioxidants. When the liver does it job, it filters the body from toxins and washes it away through excretion.
Toxins are referred to harmful substances that we gather through daily living like digested food, breathed air, consumed water, alcohol intake and even remnants of cigarette smoking. What green tea provides the body is stimulating and strengthening the immune system making the liver more capable of filtering every single substance that can be dangerous to the body.
Life depends on water. Our bodies are 75% water and our brains 85% water (this aids to cushion the brain from contact with the skull). Our body cells are made up of 75% to 90% water. We simply can’t stay alive without it. This is true for several reasons.
First of all, water is the universal solvent and since most of the body’s chemical reactions take place in solution, water is needed for them to take place. Second, water allows blood to flow through the body. It keeps the blood fluid. Third, water has a great heat capacity and this allows it to both store heat when we are cold, and lose heat through evaporation when we are not. Sweating not only cools the body but also helps cleanse impurities and waste.
We need water yet we are constantly losing it. The body loses water three ways. First, the kidneys make urine and when we pass it, we of course lose water. This is true because the kidneys process 45 to 50 gallons of fluid a day and produce more than a quart of urine every day. Since urine is mostly water (95%), we must replace this lost liquid. The other two ways the body loses water are by perspiration and defecation.
We repeat, this lose means water must be replaced. The average person should drink eight to ten glasses (two quarts) of water each day. If we don’t, we will quickly become dehydrated. Some have estimated that as much as 75% of Americans are dehydrated. A person who experiences these symptoms should quickly deal with dehydration for it can be fatal.
Diarrhea and/or vomiting are common causes of dehydration. During such times we may not be able to keep anything down. But as soon as possible replace these lost liquids. The most vulnerable are the young and old. The old are included because they lose the sense of thirst they had when they were younger. A lost of more than 1% of body weight is considered severe dehydration.
How would you know if you were dehydrated? The first sign is passing only a small amount of dark urine. This person might also notice a rise in body temperature when not sick. They might also experience extreme thirst, fatigue, headaches, nausea, and confusion. A lack of tears or sunken eyes may also indicate this problem.
If you suspect you are dehydrated, try this simple test. Pinch your skin, then let go. If you are dehydrated, the skin will be slow to return to its normal position. If you don’t know for sure, drink a glass of water anyway. People who drink sufficient pure water have the added benefit of rarely developing kidney stones.
Severe dehydration, mentioned above, might have these symptoms: severe cramping of the arms, legs, stomach, and back, low blood pressure, loss of consciousness, convulsions, sunken eyes, heart failure, inelasticity of the skin, and deep, rapid breathing. In such cases, not only the water needs to be replaced, but also the salt and glucose.
Of course, it is important to drink healthy water. Make sure it is pure. In summary, be sure you are drinking sufficient pure water each day. Eight to ten glasses can go a long way in helping you maintain a healthy body.
